Our
History
In
the fall of 1996, several families came together to discuss the
possibility of starting a new church. The group was interested
in forming a congregation and began looking for a place to
meet. A church facility in Brooklyn Park was rented to hold
two services per week.
In
1999, Spirit of Grace Church was incorporated in Minnesota. In
August 2001, the congregation rented and remodeled a store-front
facility on 109th Avenue in Blaine, Minnesota. In December of
2001, they purchased approximately two acres of land adjacent to
Woodcrest Drive NW in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. In October of
2004, they began to build on their property in Coon Rapids.
The congregation moved into the new building in the spring of 2005.
In
2009, Pastor Tim Sanders joined the congregation as senior
pastor. Pastor Gary Weisbrod was named pastor emeritus.
Spirit
of Grace Church is a 501(c)(3) corporation for Internal Revenue
purposes and is registered as a tax exempt organization in the State
of Minnesota.
Our
Purpose
The
Purpose of Spirit of Grace Church is to
lead seekers to become fully devoted followers of Christ.
We
fulfill that purpose by worshipping God in spirit and in truth,
making the gospel of Jesus Christ known by our words and deeds, and
to grow in the spirit of grace and knowledge of God. Further,
we desire to unselfishly love God with all of our heart, soul, mind
and strength and to treat those around us as Christ would desire
them to be treated. We will endeavor to teach sound doctrine
both in Word and by example, to live the principles of Christ-like
conduct in accordance with Scripture and to apply these principles
in every aspect of our lives.
What
We Believe
We
believe
in
the one ever-living, eternal God: infinite in power, holy in
nature, attributes and purpose; and possessing absolute, indivisible
deity.
We
believe
that our Lord Jesus Christ is the manifestation of that one
God. We believe that in Jesus Christ dwelleth all the fullness
of the Godhead bodily. (Colossians 2:9) He was born of the
virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died a vicarious and atoning
death for the sins of the world, resurrected bodily for our
justification, and now reigns in glory until all things be put under
His feet. (I Timothy 3:16)
We
believe
in the absolute inspiration of the Holy Scriptures in their original
autographs given by the Holy Spirit without error as He moved on the
holy men of old. Furthermore, we believe that the Church has
no authority to establish doctrine or practice, contrary to these
same scriptures, which were subsequently accepted as Canon by the
early Christian Church. (II Timothy 3:16)
We
believe
that man was made in the image of God and is the crown of all His
creation. He is now by reason of “the fall” spiritually
alienated from his creator. Apart from God’s grace he has no
ability to attain to this high calling. (Psalm 8; Eph. 2:8-9)
We
believe
that justification is by grace through faith in our Lord’s
sacrifice on Calvary. (Romans 3:21-24)
We
believe
that all people are to repent and be buried with our Lord Jesus
Christ in the waters of baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ, and receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, speaking with
other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. (Matt. 28:19; Acts
2:38; Romans 6:4; II Peter 3:9; Acts 2:1-4)
We
believe
that the supernatural gifts of the Holy Ghost are active within the
body of Christ and hence the Church until the coming of the
Lord. We believe that the development of these gifts ought to
be encouraged under the guidance of the local Church authorities.
(Acts 17; 19:1-2; I Corinthians 12:4-7)
We
believe
that those who are called by the name of Jesus Christ should depart
from iniquity, understanding that salvation from the penalty of sin
only begins the process of redemption. We acknowledge that one
work of the Holy Ghost is to create in us the character of the Lord
Jesus Christ that is developed through personal relationship with
Him. (II Tim. 2:19)
We
believe
in the priesthood of the believer. All people born of God have
equal status before God and direct access to their Lord. (I Pet.
2:5)
We
believe
the identity of the Body of Christ on the earth is primarily
perceived through the local Church. We understand the local
church to be the hope for the world and is autonomous in regards to
authority. (Rev. 2, 3)
We
believe
in the literal second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, the literal
rule of Christ upon the earth, the resurrection of the regenerate to
eternal life, and the unregenerate to the eternal damnation, and the
ultimate victory of the eternal kingdom of God. (Acts 1:9, Daniel
12:2, Rev. 22:1-7) |
